Diablo 3 Getting Started Guide

By Jassper Jenkins

This Diablo III leveling guide is going to cover some of the fundamental features of the game and what sets it apart from so many other games. The first topic I will discuss the unique style of game-play. Second, I will cover the 5 different character classes and what makes each special. Lastly, I will give some tips and tricks for leveling through the Diablo world and improving your character. Let's get started!

Most role-playing games move rather slowly and require a great deal of time to level up your characters. Often, the periods in between the action are lengthy and somewhat boring. Diablo III is quite the opposite. As an action role-playing game, the focus is most certainly on fast-paced gameplay and intense battles.

As you first enter the Diablo III world, you'll notice that the graphics are a massive improvement over Diablo II, as they should be. The nice thing, however, is that this new version of the game still maintains the overall feeling of the series by giving you a birds-eye view of the action and your surroundings. The controls are still primarily set up on the mouse for your main attacks and the keyboard for less frequently used abilities.

There are 5 character classes you can choose from in Diablo III. Your choices are the Wizard, Barbarian, Monk, Demon Hunter and Witch Doctor. Each class brings a unique array of skills into the mix and gives a very different experience. While the Wizard and Demon Hunter primarily rely on ranged attacks to defeat their enemies, the Monk and Barbarian are more focused on doing melee damage.

And then there's the Witch Doctor. The Witch Doctor is a bit of a hybrid class. They are able to do both melee and ranged damage and can also summon a variety of pets to fight for them.

Depending on which character class you choose, you experience the game in 5 completely unique ways. I recommend trying them all! Remember though, once you get into the harder difficulties, you will definitely want to be very good with at least one particular class in order to survive. Make sure to spend a bit of time mastering a class before moving on to the next!

A great leveling tip for any class in Diablo III is to be very conscious of your positioning and movement. What I mean by that is that you need to look out for incoming damaging attacks, traps that are lying on the ground and other damaging effects such as fire and poisons.

When fighting groups of monsters, or even bosses for that matter, make sure you keep an eye out for damaging effects in the environment. Often there will be lava, toxic clouds, fire and other deadly things that you'll need to make sure you avoid standing in. Nothing will kill you faster than trying to take on a group of enemies while simultaneously burning yourself alive!

I hope you have all enjoyed this brief Diablo 3 guide! The best way to get better at your character and faster at leveling is to practice. Well what are you waiting for? Get off the internet and go play some Diablo III!
